The online erosion calculator applies to the glacially deposited coastline of East Riding of Yorkshire as indicated on the map below.
There are three inputs to the calculator:
- Location
The drop-down menu lists monitoring profiles by number and gives a brief description of locality.
- Start year
Enter a year. Data starts at 1854 for most locations – the calculator advises if otherwise. - End year
Enter a year. Data ends currently at 2024 for most locations – the calculator advises if otherwise.
For locations of individual monitoring profiles:
- go to ERYC Coastal Explorer Interactive Map
- click on ‘sandwich’ icon at far right of green toolbar (Layer List)
- tick ‘Beach Profiles’ (untick others)
- drag and zoom as required

Data for the erosion calculator are obtained from East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Whilst every care is taken in preparation, no liability is implied. The extent of future cliff losses cannot be assumed from past rates of erosion.
! Attention is drawn to the possibility of underestimation for locations 58 to 70 when entering dates that include any part of the period 1854 to 1954. See comparison and spreadsheet.
